About the Knotts Island Ruritan Club
| The club is now in its 31st year. There are now 42 members including a few married couples. The group represents different age groups and occupational interests. | |
| The club meets on the first Tuesday of every month in the meeting house on the grounds of Ruritan Community Park. The meeting hall used to be a house and has been renovated to hold quite a few people in the main room. It has a small kitchen to help prepare the meals and keep coffee on. There is handicapped access as well. | |
| The park is located on the right as you head down Brumley Road, which is the first left south of the Methodist church. It has a pavilion and a stage built near the meeting house. These are used during the festivals and events. |

Each meeting begins at 7:30 pm and starts off with a meal prepared by one of the members. After the meal, business is discussed and plans for upcoming projects are laid down. The meeting ends with a pledge of allegiance to the flag, and then some conversation on the way to the cars. They usually last from an hour to an hour and a half. |
|
It's during the monthly meetings that new members are inducted. After an application has been approved, the inductees attend their first meeting at which a small closed vote is held. After the usually successful vote, lapel pins and warm welcomes are distributed to the new members. |
