About the Knotts Island Ruritan Club

The club is now in its 31st year. There are now 42 members including a few married couples. The group represents different age groups and occupational interests.

The club meets on the first Tuesday of every month in the meeting house on the grounds of Ruritan Community Park. The meeting hall used to be a house and has been renovated to hold quite a few people in the main room. It has a small kitchen to help prepare the meals and keep coffee on. There is handicapped access as well.
The park is located on the right as you head down Brumley Road, which is the first left south of the Methodist church. It has a pavilion and a stage built near the meeting house. These are used during the festivals and events.

Each meeting begins at 7:30 pm and starts off with a meal prepared by one of the members. After the meal, business is discussed and plans for upcoming projects are laid down. The meeting ends with a pledge of allegiance to the flag, and then some conversation on the way to the cars. They usually last from an hour to an hour and a half.

It's during the monthly meetings that new members are inducted. After an application has been approved, the inductees attend their first meeting at which a small closed vote is held. After the usually successful vote, lapel pins and warm welcomes are distributed to the new members.
